New Zealand's North Island 3 (Lonely Planet)

A quick read if you already know where you are going and extra info that you may not have known!

This will help with our upcoming trip to New Zealand in Sept.

Getting a little out of date now, but great info that has helped give us a great holiday.

Great tips, Lonely Planet consistently has the best guide books!

Having used LP exclusively for travel to 20+ countries in the last five years, I've found that there are two tiers of quality for these guides. This is in the lower quality one...it felt like they printed this book just to fill a quota and couldn't be bothered to list anything more than major tourist attractions. Luckily, Kiwis are friendly enough that you can easily get the scoop on what to do and where to go straight from the sheep's mouth.

Good travel book, but I like more pictures of the places being reviewed than this book provided.

We used this book to travel round North Island. We arrived in NZ with a vague plan on what we wanted to see and do and didn't start reading this book until we arrived. Found it an invaluable companion on our travels with great information about the towns and villages we travelled through and highlights on what to see and do. Also lots of historic stories and facts to keep us amused on our travels and help us to understand the political history of the lands we were visiting! The pull-out map was a good guide for general travel directions and major road routes, but we also had a road map in the car which gave us a lot more detail. A couple of things to note - we couldn't rely on the accommodation recommendations (Thames for example one B&B had ceased trading), and our route didn't follow the logic of the book and so we were flicking back and forth through chapters.

This is very poor quality for price. The clothes are so delicate and pulled apart when removed to put on another outfit by an adult who was careful. The Velcro backing that secures the clothes sticks to the fabric and pulls it apart. The hair of the doll is terrible. Too soft and falling out and tangles like crazy. She will be bald in a month at the rate we are going.

Im Gegensatz zur Südinsel- Version teilweise etwas zu viel Info bzgl. Cafes, B&B etc., wirkt dann leicht unübersichtlich. Allgemein aber natürlich sehr nützlich!
