Q: How quickly does a big bucket like this dry out?

As long as you’re not keeping it in a hot environment I would think it won’t dry out before you’re done using them.

Q: Have you tried using these on hiking backpacks? Are they moist enough to justify the high cost?

No I haven’t tried on backpacks but have used on canvas like straps and yes these are moist due to all the essential oils. One wipe goes a long way at laaat from what we have experienced.

Q: Is this safe to use metal equipment or will it cause rusting?

It does have vinegar in its ingredients which is less harsh than bleach based. We have used this on all non porous surfaces and have had no problems. It leaves a nice fresh scent too.
