I got this substance to help support the serotonin levels as well as melatonin production that is made from serotonin. Its a chain organic chem that moves as L~TRYPTO via converted to serotonin and when serotonin is needed.. It then turn into melatonin via other bodily chem reactions to support your sleep. Personally i spend thousands of dollars on organic supplements for the reason i am healing my CELIAC. I had a gotten to a severe case of the higher form of CELIAC known as {LEAKY GUT} back in 2013. Where i was allergic to almost everything and i have found a way to cleanse it into healing via researching on medicinal herbs and new pure grade supplements that mimic the body's natural rhythm without any pill materials or added factors like fillers. From advice i say i can't take MELATONIN right? Most CELIACS don't know that MELATONIN will make your immune system over sensitive and when you have a reaction to some allergen. Your reactions are 10 folds over. Trust me i know and having the hives is horrible with all the depression, fatigue, blistering, headaches, stomach pains, hair falling off, wrinkles, nausea, diarrhea, and moodiness. Well i found a solution and that's TRYPTOPHAN. Since this substance is just the organic starter chem. It won't bother if you got a immune system compromise or if you're suffering from anything via inflammation. The substance will provide fuel for serotonin conversion to elevate mood and conversion to MELATONIN to regulate sleep without any contradictions. So you ask have i had any positive effects with it alone. Yes i have with other forms of L~TRYPTO, but what i love about this company called BULK SUPPLEMENTS is that its pure grade in its purest that i'm hooked on. Has a very fast acting and reactive time frame with no side effects. I have sleep difficulties, so taking a sleep aid is often a necessity. I prefer not using habit-forming meds when I can, which is why I initially tried tryptophan. (One of several options my doc suggested.) It calms my mind nicely so that I can fall asleep easily, and it usually keeps me asleep. It's not a definite; short of using the equivalent of a horse tranquilizer, nothing I've found is wholly effective for getting me through a full 8 hours. But in terms of consistency of results and reliability, tryptophan does more for me than anything else I've tried. Since I use it often, buying tryptophan in bulk is perfect since it's a huge savings over individual pills. I use a measuring spoon for my "dose" and do a "toss-and-wash"; i.e., toss what's on the spoon onto my tongue, then wash it down with water. It's easier and less messy than trying to mix the powder into something, at least for me. The only downside of this approach is that tryptophan is bitter, akin to aspirin; however, it's not so bitter that I have to mask the taste with something else. The bitter taste fades pretty quickly.. If you're taking supplements regularly, I highly recommend Bulk Supplements. (I also use their L-Tyrosine, also via "toss-and-wash, and have found it effective, too, and certainly far less expensive than paying for individual capsules.) I'm thankful for having the bulk option. The quality of the powders has been consistently excellent. My only complaint is the packaging. It's difficult to store these bags, and if they fall over (more a matter of "when" rather than "if"), the powder near the top of the bag puffs out when the bag is next opened. I'd love stackable containers of some sort with screw-top lids. Or maybe that as an option, with the bags available for refills. Just a thought! :)

L-Tryptophan isn't the easiest powdered supplement to work with, but it does the job of helping sleep come. I take a 1/2 teaspoon dose on nights when I don't use my actual, prescribed sleeping medication of Ambien. Hard to work with: The powder itself is like shaved wax. It floats, it does not dissolve in water, and it clumps up onto itself in weird little puffs and globs all over your cup. When I try to make a cocktail of sleeping supplements, this is the one powder that creates frustration. It's hard to get it all down, and you end up with a mess all over the interior of the drinking glass. I suppose I could dissolve this in oil, but that requires making up two beverages - one for the water-soluble powders I use (Inositol, GABA, melatonin and cucurmin), and then an oil one. That's too much work for me, and I don't want to drink oil in the first place. What I do: Some days I just add my chosen dose to the water mix, and work hard to chug it all down. It really does make a mess like that, and L-Tryptophan doesn't exactly taste good (it tastes like aspirin). On other days, I take the dose right from my measuring spoon, quickly following up with water. You can still taste it, but it's far less messy this way. Why I bother: This stuff helps! Taken by itself, it won't send me to sleep, but it's a crucial part of my mixture. Adding L-Tryptophan was the key to eliminating the otherwise required antihistamines from my sleep cocktail. When I take a little bit of milk with all this, the L-Tryptophan works even better (carbs helps it work), but after brushing my teeth, I generally don't want to put milk in my mouth - yes, milk has sugar in it. The best way to manage all this would go as follows: 1. Mix water soluble powders in milk. 2. Measure L-Tryphtophan in the dosage spoon and take it right from the spoon into your mouth. 3. Drink the milk mixture, swirling it as you do to keep the other powders in suspension (otherwise some will mostly drop to the bottom, complicating your routine even more). 4. Brush teeth and hit the bed. If you have persistent, chronic insomnia, it will take a lot of experimentation to find what works for you, and maybe more than one supplement. Note: It you're taking prescription medication, ask your doctor before starting L-Tryptophan. Some meds, like Effexor, should not be taken together. In fact, ask your doctor before taking any supplements. That's always a smart thing to do. Last note: I could avoid the mess and such by putting this powder into capsules, but seriously: I'm too lazy, and it would require buying precise measuring tools/capsules, and would make a mess, wasting product. I'm not patient enough. I could also just buy pre-made capsules, but in spite of all the bother I've listed, I prefer to have this product in a clean, pure bulk form. I like seeing what doses work well for me and experimenting with that. I like the bulk price, and the ability to have less waste/packaging in my life. I'm a complete fan of this line.

I have been taking L-Tryptophan powder for 2 weeks now, and I can definitely tell a difference in my mood. I feel calmer and more relaxed, and I usually have a lot of anxiety. I feel less obsessive-compulsive tendencies and experience less emotional eating as well (which might be because I'm taking a B-vitamin complex and getting nutrients I was lacking). I am experiencing more insomnia the past week, though, which this product is supposed to remedy. I have changed a few other things in my diet and supplements, so I'm not sure what is causing it. I used to take 5-HTP capsules (100 mg. per day), but I read that long term use of 5-HTP isn't recommended, so I switched to L-Tryptophan instead, which is the precursor amino acid to 5-HTP (which then produces serotonin). I take 1/2 tsp. morning and night, and I recently added a dose midday, so I take about 1.6 grams everyday. I like BulkSupplements because they provide a pure product without any fillers and I can adjust the dose. I like the resealable bag as well, although this specific product is very fine and powdery, so I transferred it to a pint-sized Mason jar for ease of use. This is the most bitter of the powders I take, although Rhodiola is pretty bitter, too (in addition to L-Tryptophan, I take N-Acetyl-L-Cysteine, L-Glutamine, and Rhodiola Rosea from this company). It is also hard to mix in water because it is so powdery. Still, with the amount I'm taking, I'd have to take a few capsules a day, and I would also be getting fillers, so I prefer the powder despite the taste. I eat a xylitol mint as soon as I'm finished taking the powder in a little water, or I mix it with stevia or molasses in my morning tonic which has a whole cocktail of interesting substances for digestive and general health. I used to take St. John's Wort, as well, but I replaced it with Holy Basil. I was given medication for depression for over a decade in my late teens and 20s, and it never worked as well as the lifestyle changes I've made and the amino acids and herbs I'm taking. I've learned that the gut is responsible for a lot of mood neurotransmitters and immune system functions, so I'm healing my intestines and finding my mood is improving (as well as my immune system). Other helpful support for immune system, hormones, mood, thyroid, and gut (it took me over a year of research and trial and error to discover all of these healing tools, so I will list them for anyone who is interested in researching them): cod liver oil, bovine colostrum, probiotics (capsules and fermented vegetables), systemic enzymes, digestive enzymes, digestive bitters, magnesium powder (only thing that helped my constipation besides senna, which is too harsh for everyday use), buffered vitamin C powder, a B vitamin complex, milk kefir, apple cider vinegar, coconut oil, cilantro & parsley (for metal detox), almonds, pumpkin and sunflower seeds, raw onion, garlic, lemon juice, ground flax seeds, chia seeds, gelatin (Great Lakes powder and homemade bone broths), slippery elm powder, maca powder, ginger, and turmeric. For a sluggish thyroid, I also take a vitamin thyroid support with selenium and zinc (from Pure Encapsulations), and large doses of B-1 and B-12. Also, organ meats and lots of green leafy vegetables, grass-fed raw dairy, and very little grains and beans (due to sensitivities, I rarely eat gluten, peanuts, corn, refined sugar, baking yeast, flour, eggs, or soy).

I have had trouble falling and staying asleep for decades. I was prescribed sleeping pills that didn't work until I was prescribed something that left me so horribly hungover the next morning I had to stop taking it. I then went on a journey to find something that would work and not leave me so groggy the next morning. I used to get my L-Tryptophan capsules at GNC but would always have to return because they would never be in stock and was expensive. I knew I could find it and get a better deal on Amazon. I always read the reviews before I purchase anything and read about the difficulties mixing this, but I had purchased a capsule filling kit previously from Amazon so I decided to load this into 00 capsules. I also read about the tip of taking this with collagen and since I already was taking collagen (but didn't read the label about taking it 2x/day LOL!) I started taking it at night, too. I ordered some more and take it with that. I have not had difficulty falling and staying asleep since I started taking it! RELIEF!!!!! I also do not have that hangover feel the following morning. I have plenty of powder left over after filling up a bottle so I am not ever running out again now that I know where to get this that will always be in stock.
