Maybe it’s just not for me but could be for you
I don’t want to leave less than 5 stars because the device, its concept, and the actual physical quality of the product was good. It definitely did not live up to its promises though so I sent it back. It was slow, unorganized, laggy, and very difficult to use in general. I give the company props for trying, but this item was not for me.

Bricked units, boot issues, and DOES NOT work with Hulu Live
I wanted to love the Ottocast Play2Video Ultra, but after trying two separate units, I cannot recommend this product. It has been a complete waste of time and money. The Hardware Failures: I purchased two units to ensure I didn't just have a "lemon," but both were defective in different ways: Unit #1: Worked exactly one time. I attempted to update the software and download a streaming app, and the system completely locked up. It shut down and never turned back on again. Bricked immediately. Unit #2: I got a second device, and while it turns on, it is incredibly unreliable. It only successfully boots up and connects about 20% of the time. It is extremely frustrating sitting in the car hoping it will actually work. The Software/GPS Issue: Even on the rare occasion that the device actually boots up, the functionality is misleading. Although the system offers the option to download Hulu, it will not work. Hulu Live requires location verification to function. Since the Play2Video Ultra does not have internal GPS capabilities, Hulu blocks the stream. If your specific purpose is watching live TV via Hulu, this device is useless to you. Verdict: Between the hardware reliability issues and the lack of GPS for location-dependent apps, this product is not ready for prime time. Avoid.

Not compatible with some new vehicles without an update
I have a 2025 ram 2500 and it doesn’t work in my truck. I called support and they said it doesn’t have the new software for my truck and I have to update it on a labtop. Wasn’t plug and play like I was under the impression it would be. In the process of returning it now.

Any ideas to make it work?
I’m very disappointed it will not work with Carpodgo which has CarPlay built in. I have a 2018 Armada and CarPlay is not installed so that’s why I bought the car pod go to make it work and it’s fine but I bought your unit thePlay2Video Ultra hoping that it would interface with my carpodgo and apparently it will not. Any suggestions I would really like to make this work

Out of the box this device froze on to the select language page. I tried for hrs with websites and utube content and no pouch . Every attempt to use a pin and reset to fav to ty setting button , it went directly to the language set up page within 20 seconds and froze. Returned same day !

First important note is that this will not add android auto or apply carplay to a car that does not already support it, what this devices does is enable either a standalone experience or the ability to connect your phone wirelessly. In many cases this is important as the wired connection frequently has low current for charging and I've experienced cases where the phone will drain faster then it can be charged. Connecting your phone wirelessly allows you to use a better charger or power bank to keep your phone charged during long trips while still having all the benefits of using Android Auto or Apple Carplay. Using the standalone mode the devices provides a basic android experience using your vehicle touchscreen to control, many apps are supported but some (such as disney+) will not be listed (I have not tried to see if it can be sideloaded). Using it in the wireless mode allows for the standard experience you would have while wired in, without having the issues being wired in can cause. For me the biggest impact is that during long drives I can now properly charge my phone as opposed to being limited to the slow charge mode of the wired port.

For almost a year now I was using the older model of this (Play2Video Pro) and this vastly improves on that. I use an Alpine ILX-W650 aftermarket headunit with wired CarPlay and it works great with this. Paired to my phone as a wireless hotspot videos stream clearly and consistently without many hiccups. In the month I have been using it this one has only crashed once and the video has frozen twice (but later caught up. Could have also been a network issue). The older model would also crash about once a month, but unplugging it and plugging back in fixes it on both. This is a great improvement over the old model as the interface is smoother, the response is faster, the graphics are better, there are more apps and the video seems to play at a higher resolution. Like the old model this one is expandable with a USB drive, so you can download shows/movies from the streaming services to play when you don't have cell service or data left. The two negative things I have to say are: it advertises Disney+ in the description, however there is no Disney+ app downloaded or available to download for it and the switch to a USB-A interface from the unit to your vehicle seems like a step backwards. The old model had a USB-C port to plug into from the car whereas this one has a built-in USB-A connector/cord with a USB-C adapter if the car takes USB-C. I much prefer the USB-C female plug on the old model. I also think they added the T-cord adapter, which the manual says is for additional power, due to the switch to USB-A. My headunit powers this fine, however I still think they should have stuck with USB-C. Overall though I am very happy with this product for the price.

I bought it to screen mirror apps like TSN, Sportsnet to watch live events but it will only play the audio in my 2026 Toyota Tundra . It does not play video like advertised. Extremely dissapointed with this product.
