Each year, I buy worms to put in my worm habitat. My three and four-year old pre-K class loves learning about the worms. This book was perfect for teaching important vocabulary words and characteristics of worms. It covered all the concepts that I've introduced for years; I especially liked that it suggested we save the worms lost on the sidewalk after rain. This is something we always do as we walk back to our classroom from the buses. I chose not to explain the mating process with them, but there were so many interesting pictures and words, they didn't even notice that I skimmed over that page. I was especially excited when they came up to me on the playground and told me they had found castings; all of this from the illustrations in the book. This is a keeper in my reference library.

This book is perfect. Not only was I able to teach my 3 year old the basics about worms, and learn a few things myself, but this book is set up as an early reference book for kids. Even with the short length of the book, which was perfect for a 3 year old's attention span, the book contained a Table of Contents, Glossary, and Index. I am just starting to show my eager to read child the different parts of a book, and this was a perfect example. There was also a very simplified drawing of a worm to provide a brief anatomy lesson. I was very impressed with the layout and content of this book. It was just what we needed.

Educational, even for an adult! I now know what worm body parts are called! Easy to read to a child & depending on your child's ability they may be able to read most of it themselves.Here's my view that you may disagree with...a child learns what they live. If you speak to a child using baby talk or speak to them like they are stupid, that is how they will speak. If you speak to them using adult vocabulary (cuss words not included), they will learn new words. Challenge your kids & get this book.

I am going to do a Story hour about worms. This book will be great for that. It is very colorful.
