Q: Does this read Avid microchips?

I don't know the format of Avid chip IDs, but I can tell you it read the Home Again chip (10 digits) and two different 24 Pet Watch chips, one with 15 digits and one with 10 digits. No idea if any of those are Avid, but we first bought a cheaper one (about $50) and it wouldn't read the Home Again chip or the 10-digit 24 Pet Watch chip.

Q: Will this work with Avid and Home Again?

Yes. Our Hero Advanced Microchip Reader will read all Avid and Home Again microchips.

Q: Is it possible to adjust the volume of the beep? It's so loud it frightens away the cats I'm trying to scan.

The beep on Hero™ is not adjustable; however, here are a couple tips that may make scanning for a microchip more successful. • Start at the animal’s head, and scan side-to-side all the way to the tail, making several passes over each area. • If scanning several animals, using Bluetooth, gives Hero™ the power to scan a chip and instantly send it to your waiting Bluetooth device. Q: Does it give the temperature info for chips that have the ability to tell the animals temperature?

No, the Hero™ scanner does not display the animal temperature, but will display the chip number.
