Q: would anyone happen to know if standard size ceramic cups/mugs would fit in place of the plastic/paper? or be willing to measure the exact openings?

The opening is 3 3/4 in wide snd will hold a ceramic cup.Great idea,I just put in the cardboard ones.I Love my unit and looks professional next to my Keurig coffee maker ENJOY ...luckyguyswife

I use it in my office, and I love it! I have had no problem storing 12 oz cups in it, and I don't think the diameter in the 12 oz cup is any different than that of a 16 oz or 20 oz cup.

Q: Does this fit 20 oz cups?

I don't know if it does or not. I don't put cups in it but I have put large club store size syrup bottles in the slots and they fit perfectly.

Q: Does this hold the 16 oz Chinet Comfort Cup?

We use a dixie 12 oz cup and the measurement of the opening is 3.5" square so if you can measure the cup you mentioned that should help.
