First time water kefir user, and I'm in love!
This product is as easy to use and create as noted in the paperwork with the kefir grains. I would say pretty much anybody can make this work for them. It's fairly foolproof. My only complaint is their somewhat big price tag to get it mailed faster, since they use USPS. For the hefty charge I expected the package to be delivered directly to my doorstep, not have to go to the post office to pick it up, so I feel they might want to tweak that as it shouldn't cost as much as it did to quickly mail 2 tiny quarter cups of kefir grains. Just seemed a little over the top. Other than that it is a quality product that does do exactly as touted in their description. I've managed to have over a week's worth of kefir water of a half gallon a day, tasty and delicious and definitely revitalizing. The bottles bubble and sizzle beautifully, and I've already had to start a backup 'kefir grains' hotel due to so many getting big in a short amount of time. I opted to stick with the black molasses version as I love blackstrap molasses in its purest state. The flavor is deliciously delicate and it doesn't need to be dressed up with differently flavored versions. I like to keep it simple and healthy. Even the hubs like it. Whowouldvethunkit!

Amazing Kefir Granules!
So, I've entered the world of doing my own ferments for things like sauerkraut, other veggies, and tepache. I was recently introduced to water kefir. I ordered these water kefir granules to give it a try. Wow! The granules provided were already pretty plump and ready for use. I did my first water kefir ferment, which took less than 48 hours. My kefir granules were very happy and active! The flavor was also pleasant, tangy, and the water was fairly fizzy (almost like the fizziness of a Vitamin C supplement) without a second ferment. I used unsulphured molasses to introduce minerals into the intitial ferment, but I'm going to try something else for the next batch. It was still a pleasant flavor, but just a little bit too much of a molasses flavor, especially considering I used dark panela for my cane sugar source. This product also came with instructions, and I found making my first batch of kefir water very simple. These kefir granules were not dried and did not need to be hydrated and reactivated. They arrived fresh and ready to use. They cost more than dried kefir granules, but I found the cost pretty decent for the quantity I received.

Healthy grains that multiply fast
Great kefir grains! So pleased with them! They arrived in good shape. I followed instructions to put them in sugar water and they have been producing great kefir water and been multiplying. I have shared some. My sister had been doing Kefir for years. I shared some of these grains once they multiplied with her to compare with hers. Hers are tiny and don't multiply much. She was first impressed with the size of these grains. She made her first batch and couldn't believe the bubbles and carbonation on just the first fermentation. The first time I made it, for the second fermentation I had put in some Lemon and strawberry purée as a recipe I had seen on Pinterest. Well.. when I went to 'burp' before bed- there was a volcanic eruption and we had it on the ceiling! Since then, I have learned a couple things and No longer have that problem. So.. if wanting to get started- here's a quick overview of it. First, when you get your grains- rinse them well under room temp water. Then if you have 1/4 cup grains you will need 1/4 cup sugar that has been dissolved in some warm water. I add this to the room temp water to make your 32 oz. now. I have found with the batch I grains I received that they prefer bottled spring water and they like half the sugar mixture to be brown sugar. You let this set on your counter for 48 hours. That is the first ferment. Strain your grains in a plastic mesh strainer, needs to be finely webbed so you don't lose your grains. The sugar mixture left behind is added to an airtight pop top style jar. I have found that grapefruit juice is by far my favorite. So I add some to the sugar water and let sit on the counter with lid closed for 12-24 hours. Burping after 12. Then refridgerate and drink when cold. It's full of probiotic benefits!

Shipped fast, awesome kefir crystals
This is the second time I've done water kefir. My first batch was from crystals that a friend gave me, with very little instruction. I kept those going for about a year, but never quite got the hang of getting them just right. I wanted to try again, and ordered these. Awesome product, awesome experience. 1. First, they shipped very quickly. I don't think the ones I ordered were marked "Prime", but they shipped quick anyway. 2. They sent a little more than I ordered, an "upgraded" size. I don't know if that happens every time or not, but it was nice. It makes the fermentation faster. 3. The crystals were moist and healthy looking right out of the containers. 4. They came with excellent printed instructions on glossy cards. Plenty of info on how to get things started, how to store, dehydrate, brew, etc etc etc. AWESOME instructions. I feel very confident with these. Even though I've done crystals before, these had some hints that are very helpful. 5. The initial brewing went perfectly. I used sucanut for the first try, with a little molasses. Second brew I used turbinado. Both worked great. 6. Crystals have already started to grow/multiply. They seem exceptionally healthy, and I feel that with the instructions I received, I'll be able to keep them that way! Whether it's your first try, or if you'd done them before, you won't go wrong with these.

Best I have used!!!!
I have purchased from this company before with great results. However, I had to stop making Kefir for a bit and when I started up I ordered from a regular fermented product company. Their grains never have multiplied. I needed more grains to increase the production due to the popularity with grand kids so I decided to go back to this company. And with only the second batch the grains are going crazy. They have increased enough that I can start a gallon jar on the next run. I am very impressed with their quality and the information sheets they include are excellent and on durable paper! I highly recommend Florida Sun Kefir!

Love my kefir grains! No problems making fruit flavored kefir
The kefir grains arrived in excellent condition. Starting the first fermentation and the second fermentation with fruit was a breeze. I liked the note cards too. Everything was well explained and easy to follow. This is cherry flavored water kefir can't wait to make blueberry, strawberry, and I also love ginger kefir. Thank you for such a great product and experience.

great grains - too much plastic
So, the grains are great. They were big, doubled quickly and have been happy producers. I need to give some away now. Very happy about that. Sending some to family and friends. Product is what I hoped and arrived quickly. My only gripe is just how wasteful the packaging was. Yes, my kefir grains arrived safe and sound. However, the USPS (that is struggling financially) is not providing free padded envelopes so that people can use THREE of them, one inside another, to pad one shipment. Yes, the grains are moist - but they were in a plastic cup, inside 2 plastic ziplocks, inside 3 layered USPS bubble envelopes. I appreciate the concern for my onion on arrival condition - now can we also be concerned about wasteful use of plastics and publicly funded resources?

You probably know what you're buying
I like being able to purchase grains like this where they're active and ready to use. A year prior, I was given grains from a culture that had to be rehydrated and although they worked fine, they never grew larger and it was hard to tell if they really ever multiplied. I was only getting granules that looked like grains but they never got larger in that culture, they were however, still able to ferment. These grains were ready to go so I didn't have to spend time getting them hydrated and reactivated. I had a quart jar of sugar water ready for each packet and just went on making kefir as soon as the package arrived. I was impressed to see some grains the size of a thumbnail were in the package. It's been about two months that I've been changing the sugar water for the grains every two days, sometimes 3 days if I forget. The grains have doubled in volume since I started so I can start another quart jar if I wanted. I didn't bother with the included brewing bags and keep the grains loose in the jar. I use a fine mesh nylon strainer and funnel to keep grains while I pour out my kefir. Any grains falling onto the strainer is put back, sugar and water is replaced and the culture is eating again. A lot of water kefir demonstrations and instructions may say to dissolve sugar water first; I gave up that step a long time ago with my previous culture and just let the sugar dissolve while the grains are in it and it has worked fine for me; less time and hassle to keep these guys alive and they don't seem to be complaining. My water district here in Fremont, California claims to treat tap water with chlorine and fluoride so I store the tap water in a larger mason for two days before use; lately I've been boiling the water before storing but it doesn't seem to make any difference in affecting the culture. Just keep the mason covered with a coffee filter or fine cloth while storing and most of the CL and FL should dissipate. If your water district uses chloramine, you might have different results. I haven't had to add any minerals to my culture and use raw/turbinado sugar. I usually blend with a portion pure cane sugar in case there might be too many minerals for the culture to consume in raw sugar. If you like to make soda with it, look into getting swing top bottles from a beer making supplier. Don't get cheap swing top bottles that aren't made for brewing, they can break from over-pressure during the second ferment stage.
