Franklin Sports Rod Hockey

Gift for my great grand son..he's nine and loves it.

My sons bought this quite a few years ago and it still works! They're not easy on it either. Sometimes a player will fall off, but they're very simple to reattach. This game has provided many hours of entertainment in my house.

If you aren't willing to drop ~$160 on one of these but still want a tabletop hockey game this is a great product with some ups and downs Pros- -Plays just like it should -Keeps my kids and myself busy for hours -Crazy fun -Nostalgia Cons- -Yes they are plastic rods, spend another 100 if you want steel like back in the old days -The instructions are poor, pictures on Amazon made it easy to build though -Yes there is some buold quality issues where I have 2 characters that get stuck, I razored the notches on the backside and it was all but resolved. All in all for 50 bones this has made me very happy and my young kids have not managed to break it yet

Man I wish this was more sturdy like the ones we had back in the 90s. Looking forward to this for my nephew to play with, but one man’s stick broke after about 5 uses. The players are made out of some putty plastic and small. They don’t reach the puck like they should. The designer must have not played with it before putting into the stream of commerce. The rods are really flimsy and are hard to manipulate. If I had 3 year old hands it would make sense, but even an 8 year old hands are too big. Also, the feet on the board do not do it’s job. It the whole rink slides when 2 people are playing, so constantly readjusting the rink for players to be comfortable.

I purchased this game for my 8 and 5 year old kids for Christmas, purely out of nostalgia, as I had the old, sturdy Franklin Rod Hockey game with the flat plastic players. I played the hell out of that game and was hoping to capture that same love for my kids. Unfortunately, this game is shoddily made. Cheap and thin plastic, sticks that continually break off the players, and rods that stick when moving and spinning. If it survives any significant length of time, I will be shocked. As for positives, my boys do enjoy the game despite the poor quality, and for what I paid ($22, how this piece of junk SRP's for $40 is insane!) I don't mind as badly as I would if they didn't play at all. For now it will work as a nice starter game, but in the future, I'll buck up the money for a quality Stiga set.

Christmas gift ~ huge hit! Extremely easy to assemble. The kids absolutely loved it and have had so much fun with it. Not to mention it’s a great price.

some spots on the ice were warped making the surface on either side of the slot or the players slide on even thus causing the players to stick or not slide smoothly. Also the player who goes behind the net would also stick because the mechanism on the underside of the ice controlling that player was rubbing against the plastic fastener holding the goalie in place. I had to take a Dremel tool and grind part of that goalie fastener off so that they could pass each other's smoothly. They had the right idea but it wasn't manufactured properly. Too bad.

So if yours is like mine the guys that run along the edge get stuck turning when the stick hits the wall. I simply filed the top of the stick so it was perpendicular with the bottom. Then both guys that go around the back always get stuck towards the goal. If you flip the unit upside down you'll see where it's rubbing against. I removed the blue part(both sides) and filed that and now those guys don't run. That will fix 90% of stuck issues and boy is it better. If I had paid 40$ I would be pissed but I got this as used item and it was only 20$. So I will give it 5 stars.

Old type gift as thing are made cheaper over the decades. This is perfect at the price and he loves playing hockey. If you seen his eyes like up when opening it . " what a bargain. "
