First of all, this is a very solid piece of kit. It is MUCH larger than the typical window lock of any kind. If fitted properly it would be impossible to force window open.Although it would easily do the job of being a heavy duty door lock, don't even think about it because if the door slammed shut accidentally there is no way you are going to open that door from the outside. There are very clear warnings about not using this as a door lock in the instructions that come with it.So why the one star if it is so solid and easy to operate? Well, most UK windows open outwards. This lock will only operate on inward opening windows. In addition, the edge of the window must be very close to the wall.But probably the main reason I consider this as not very secure is because a determined burglar only has to smash the glass to put his hand through to push the window stop aside. This would be a 20 second job. The description of this item is quite misleading. It is not a lock - no keys of any kind - it is a very heavy duty spring loaded window stop. It is very chunky and, frankly, not at all elegant.In the right circumstances, these would make a strong wedge if used in pairs. Would also be a high security door stop (eg internal garage access door) BUT ONLY IF there is unfettered alternative access to the room/space in which the stop is placed.
