27 inch Weinmann Wheelset
This is a very nice wheelset with double-wall rims. The quality is very good for the price, and the 1 inch rims (usually you can only find 1.25 inch) are a plus. I bought these for an old English Mercian frame I want to get on the road. They're not a match for the high quality alloy wheels that it came with back in the '60's, but they work better than using 700c. It's not easy to find a decent set of 27 inch wheels that don't use steel or single wall rims, much less 27x1 inch rims. The price is terrific at under $100.00 and free shipping made it an even sweeter deal. These are easily worth more. Edit: I'm hoping 27x1 tires will be available in the future. There were very few choices out there, but I found some retro gum-walls here on Amazon that are great. Update: I've been riding these wheels for about 1000 miles including a Century with 5000 feet of climbing. I'm a big guy, 6'4", 220lbs and they perform no complaints. The wheels are solid and true. I had a couple of spokes come loose and create a slight blip recently. Two minutes with a spoke wrench and they were back to perfect. I should have checked them sooner, being new, but I forgot to do it. The bearings are smooth and the bike rolls nicely. These are solid wheels and a great choice for your old 10 speed. Speaking of using these on old bikes, read on: There have been some questions about freewheels and the threads on these hubs. It is my understanding that there are basically two sizes, ISO and BMX. Italian and British hubs/freewheels from the old days are slightly different from ISO, but are close enough and will usually fit fine. French threads are too different and won't work. These wheels are ISO and any modern freewheel (not BMX 30x1mm) will fit. If your freewheel is French, replace it with ISO. How many cogs will fit in your frame is dependent on the frame. 6 won't fit in mine. Also, if you're building a single speed and want to use a freewheel with less than than 14 teeth, you'll have to go with a BMX (30x1mm) hub.

Fantastic quality wheels
I just put these wheels on this afternoon, and so far they're fantastic! Yes they cost more than other options on Amazon, and the shipping took 8 days, but they're worth every penny and every day of waiting. Double wall Weinmann LP18 rim, and the hubs mine came with were Origin 8, aluminum alloy and sealed cartridge as advertised. Based on that alone I expect these to last a long time though the daily grind of my commute. The quick release skewers are indeed quick and easy. Velox 10 mm rim tape was a perfect fit. They're presta valve, not shrader, so watch which tubes you get! Rear wheel was perfectly true, and the front wheel rim had a slight 1 mm side-to-side wobble - not noticable unless you're watching closely the space between the rim and brake. Should be easy to true. I know these aren't super light weight by race standards but they're lighter than my old wheels, super durable, and hey if you're riding 27" wheels with a freewheel and 126mm rear dropouts, then this isn't the kind of bike you count milligrams on anyway. I paired these wheels with a Shimano 6spd freewheel, 10mm velox rim tape, 27x1 1/4 Serfas Seca FPS tires, and Giant 700c 28-32 mm Presta tubes. I am happy so far! I'll eventually get around to truing the front wheel a bit better, but it isn't bothering me much yet. This product is unique, as far as I can tell, in meeting all these criteria: 27", Weinmann double wall rims, sealed cartridge hubs, quick release, 126mm rear dropout spacing. The price is an amazing deal for all that. These wheels are on my 1980s steel frame 12 speed road bike, which I routinely take to zip around town and its many potholes, as well as an occasial 20 mile ride to and from work whenever I can make the time.

Great Value, Good Wheelset
I was disappointed to discover the Weinmann rims didn't have the traditional box-shaped profile I was looking for, but that was my fault for not reading more closely. I bought these for use on a high-quality 80s steel road bike that I use as my commuter/beater/whatever bike. They're perfectly suited to this purpose. Relatively inexpensive, non-butted spokes, not overly heavy. Yeah. I like 'em. (Except for the skewers, which were ugly and cheap, so I reused the ones I had and gave these away.) Some expressed concern about machine-built wheels when I was considering the purchase. But these were straight and true right from the box and are well put together. The hubs -- not mentioned in the description -- are Origin 8 w/ sealed bearings. I suspect this may vary based on whose wholesale prices are best at the time, and thus no description. Anyway, you wouldn't wanna race on these. But for the every day bike that's expected to function reliably without constant obsessive attention these are a solid choice. Would buy again, although I'd go with the CR-18 rims to get the look I like.

Beautiful wheels that breathe new life into vintage bicycles
I ordered this 27" wheelset to replace the original wheels on my mid-eighties Schwinn (really a rebadged Giant) road bike. The original wheels had worn hubs, unreliable spokes, and damaged rims. These pristine replacements are like a dream come true; not only do they have all the benefits of being brand new but they are clearly of exceedingly high quality. The wheels were extremely true right out of the box. The excellent double-wall rims matched beautifully with 10MM cloth tape. The hubs seemed perfectly put together with smooth spinning axles and no play. This wheelset is spaced at 126mm for the rear and dropped in without issue, just as my existing spoke protector and five-speed freewheel attached with ease. Presta tubes are a must, and either a 27" x 1¼ or 700c x 32mm tube works fine. 27" x 1¼ tires (Continental Gatorskins) worked perfectly and went on with little effort. I look forward to many thousands of happy miles on these wheels.
