Great axe/ multitool. AMAZING company!
Initially, I was looking for a traditional hatchet (wooden handle) for an upcoming backpacking trip I was planning. But, after watching some youtube videos on "best backpacking hatchet" which had nothing but positive reviews of this camping axe, I decided to purchase one for myself. First, I have only 3 complaints for the axe. 1) For any backpacker, weight is always at the forefront of any purchase. This axe is heavy. But, I made the decision to add it to my kit because I felt the positives of the axe outweighed the negatives. Plus, I purchased it knowing that it would weigh a lot. So, this is one complaint that I was already anticipating when I was making my purchase. 2) The handle of the axe is round. So, the user is not able to easily index it and know where the cutting edge of the axe blade is. This became an issue when chopping fire wood and the axe head would dislodge and loosen/ unscrew after every swing. At first, I thought it was a defective. But, after a few swings, I realized that it was user error. After making adjustments to my grip to properly index the axe, I had no issues with the axe head. 3) After, normal use, the compass at the bottom of the handle came off exposing a needle. The first 2 issues weren't really issues at at all. And. the 3rd issue was taken care by contacting IUNIO. I have to say that dealing with IUNIO has been nothing short of AMAZING. They are a company that makes a quality product and stands behind it. I was contacted by Candy, who made sure a new piece was sent out, made sure it was received, and followed up to make sure I was satisfied. I wish IUNIO made more products for backpacking because after using their axe and multi tools, and dealing with Candy, I trust them 100%. I know that I will get a quality product, backed by a quality company. The replacement compass hasn't broken off, even after many uses. I love having the option to either pack the axe up in the included pouch or, to put the axe together and carry it on my pack. Having that option, helps me to be versatile in the field. Also, you can adjust the length of the axe handle to suit your needs. This axe has become a permanent part of my backpacking kit-regardless of the weight. I recommend it 100%. You will not be disappointed. And, you can purchase with confidence, knowing that IUNIO will stand by their product and really have their customer's satisfaction in mind.

Excellent multipurpose survival functions
One of the key features of any piece of survival gear or equipment is that it should possesses multipurpose and multifaceted qualities. This reduces the quantity of items necessary for packing around, in addition to securing your ability to maintain accountability of your gear. The ingenious tubular engineering of the 16" IUNIO Camping Axe embodies these qualities. The axe is constructed of good quality steel. The weld for the hammer head is solid. The threads for each tubular attachment are durable and smooth -- I have had zero issues with my threads, though other comments have said they are tight. They can be lubricated, however you want the threads to be tight so they don't unscrew while in use and to ensure you don't lose/separate attachments while in transit. The conglomerate of items could be used for splitting small logs, preparing kindling, procuring, preparing and cooking small game animals and fish, extracting yourself or others from vehicles, breaking glass/windows, identifying your "lost" or "separated" position, wilderness navigation, building shelters and fires, self defense, etching and engraving, etc. The usefulness is limited only by imagination, skill and training, though you need not be an expert survivalist to benefit from the multiple uses of this survival axe. I would not use this axe and attachments for heavy chopping or hammering, though I believe that should go without being said. This is a survival axe, not meant for industrial use. The one additional feature I think this axe could benefit from is an easy means for securing the axe external to your pack. The hatchet head cover has a securable loop on the backside. However, the snaps that secure the cover to the head are on the underside of the cover. If the snaps get snagged and unintentionally separated, the axe could become completely detached and unaccounted for. Additionally, rather than having a loop oriented vertically on the cover, I think it would be better at least oriented horizontally, or best, having vertical snap-straps that could be easily secured to MOLLE webbing.

Great Axe, Minor Problem
Had a chance to test the axe out this weekend and had a great experience. The axe went together, with all pieces, within a minute, and I was ready to use it. Pictures of the parts above. Took it out to take down a few trees, the picture of the tree was after five or six swings. The axe was sharp and made quick work of downing the tree and cutting limbs. I will say, as I continued to use it, every couple of swings, I would have to retighten either the handle or the axe head. I saw reviews of that happening to people with the shovel, but I only experienced it on the axe. I purposely did not put on the comfort tape, to see how it felt on ungloved hands. It wasn’t too bad, but after a while, it digs in, so I appreciate the tape as an included item. Combining this axe with the IUNIO Military Portable Folding Shovel and Pickax makes a great paring. When I bought the axe, there wasn’t an option with the bag to hold it in, so I have both the axe and the shovel in the shovel bag. It’s a tight fit, but it works. I may pickup the axe bag though, as it looks like it has individual slots for the tubes and accessories, and MOLLE webbing to fix it to the outside of a pack.

revised/updated version is the much improved, great axe!
This is my third review of the axe, as at first I loved it, then it broke on first use and I hated it, now I love it again. ;-) Recognizing there was a defect in the original design, the manufacturer redesigned the axe head (where it connects with the handle), replacing a version which used bolts, to a new screw-in version. After asking for a refund/return, I was provided the upgraded version, and it is everything the original was, and more! Besides the improved head, it now also comes with its own carry-pouch (disassembled), and there is still an axe head sheath, with belt loop, if you want to carry assembled. A great product made way better. It's a great deal, too. [review after axe broke...] Out of the box, I thought this axe was the bomb (original 5-star review below), but on the first use, one of the two hex-head bolts holding the axe head to the handle broke... not loose, but flat out broke, leaving me in the woods, without an axe, and without any more firewood. Boo. What could have been a fantastic product is a total dud, for their lack of using grade 8 (or even grade 5) bolts. Boo. [original review...] There are many axes on Amazon, but nothing like this amazing multi-tool. I just wanted an axe with a beltloop sheath for the campsite, but it's that and way more. Perfect heft and balance as an axe, plus hammer, knife, saw, whistle, punch, compass. And, it comes with camo wrap tape to make a personalized grip. Add your own fishing line and hook, and it'd be a perfect survival tool. The precision quality is great... bargain price, too. I can't recommend this highly enough. It's definitely on the holiday shopping list for a few lucky buddies.

Nice Hatchet
Amazon was the shipper of this item and they really messed up the order. It's wasn't the fault of the seller at all but they still fixed Amazon's mistake! They are a great vendor/seller! I have now purchased several items from them just because I know they are a good seller! This review is for their hatchet. It's a nice hatchet but it's definitely not an axe - you can't chop logs for the fire place with it; it just doesn't have the heft. It's great for chopping smaller limbs for a camp fire or sharpening stakes and such though. It has O-rings so you can store items in the handle without them getting wet; like matches. The ferro rod works REALLY well if you know how to use one. Just be sure to get the black off the rod (like all ferro rods) or you won't get any sparks. I've used it on several "light" camping trips now (you'll see from some of the different scenes in the video) and it did fine. I'll be going down to the Everglades next week to do some "heavier" camping and I'll really put it to the test down there. All in all, I like the hatchet; it's a good multi-tool. It's light enough to carry on your belt or rucksack when you need to and conveniently small enough to keep stored in my Jeep. You will need to sharpen it before you use it though because it doesn't come very sharp. I'd definitely recommend this hatchet to my friends.

Didn't survive
This axe is seemingly pretty solid once assembled. Goes together smoothly and feels good in your hand. Weight is good as well. That's where the positive attributes sort of fade off. It tends to constantly separate during use. After two trips using it to slpit 1" to 2" branches for kindling the compass flew out and was lost in undergrowth. On the third trip while trying to split a slightly thick piece of wood 2 1/2 " or so the hammer end piece fell off. The axe head itself is good and sharp but would buy a single piece handle andle solid cast axe next time. Update: Company was in touch with me right after my review posted. They offered me two solutions to compensatee for the problem I encountered. Great customer service... and as I said the axe itself is great it just lost its hammer head.

pretty reliable tool for hiking , camping
I fell that I am lucky because I have old and new version of this axe . Company engineer had done really good job! It is very important, that when you outside in forest or mountains all yours tools work properly. And from my experience this axe is from good collection for any outdoor events. The axe has good balance and weight after proper assembly. I am impressed of quality of iron for both- axe blade and handle. A few changes in new version was made for type of fixing blade( it is welded, not bolted), the angle of sharpening too . In previous version the angle was more like knife. It was very sharp, but good only for small pieces of wood. In new version angle from blade to edge more for sturdy axe. This is big improvement, from my point of view. And one more aspect- the center of weight. It moves to the handle . Just one aspect that I found out annoying- too sharp edges on handle notch. But with tape in the keet , that come with axe that will be fixable. This the axe become real tool. Thank you for your time and really nice job!!

The over all size is good for me
The over all size is good for me. I got this to go in my RV for camping. Needed a hammer and axe combo. The extra items inside the handle were just bonus. My issue is the hardware use to attach the axe head. After a couple of trial runs on some fire wood I had, I could feel the head becoming loose. And a audible rattling was present. An inspection of the screws showed they had started to become loose. I removed them and coated the treads with vibra-tite and reinstalled them. So far so good. My suggestion to the manufacturer is to either use locktite or some other thread locking compound during the manufacturing process or as a consumer to do this prior to use. Over it’s a good tool. Just needs a little tweak to make it great. Sept, 21, 2018 - The manufacturer contacted me about my review and actually took my review into consideration on a redesign of the axe head. The new head is welded to the a small section of the handle tube and is much more stable. I received the redesigned head and tried it out straight away. It passed the firewood test with flying colors. I'm happy to say this is now my go to for all my camping and backpacking needs. It even comes with a carry pouch with MOLLE straps that make it easy to attach to my pack. It nice to see a manufacturer the takes pride in their products and is looking for ways to improve them.
