Fabulous for easy entertaining
I've had a sombrero for years, the spirit burner type, and decided to upgrade to the electrical one. So glad I have, the ease of use, control and safety is way better. I particular love the raclette addition to the sombrero. Filling the gully with thai soup broth, and then cooking sliced courgettes, mushrooms, peppers and steak/prawns for the non vegetarians on the hat, with dipping pre-cooked noodles into the broth was a delight. We added shop bought dips for dipping cooked items into, totally delicious. The whole thing was so easy to clean afterwards, despite a long fun filled evening full of cooking. We experimented with bits on the raclette, lots of fun producing different tastes. Love this item, highly recommend. On a more technical side, its solid, beautifully made and I cannot fault the design of it Just a fabulous addition to not only social occasions, but for fun evenings for two.

Fantastic fun
I have seen this kind of cooking appliance in Cyprus some 25 years ago, only it was powered with charcole and didn't have the little trays underneath. We enjoyed it so much then and I have tried to find one ever since without any luck. It needs a bit of practice, so best to experiment a bit first before inviting guests. I also bought a few pairs of small tongs so that everyone can have their own for raw and cooked meat in case someones a bit iffy about it. Steak and pork work well, Lamb is a bit tough and I haven't tried to do Prawns yet. Loads of laughs around the table.

Great unit, great price.
For £ 14 an absolute no brainer. Great look, super easy to use and assemble and it works really well. Have a mini Raclette party in minutes. Grills meat efficiently and if you fill water in the brim of the sombrero you can even have a bouillon with your grill. Only criticism is the power cord which is way too short. Four stars as I have no idea yet how long the unit will last.

It’s much cool then it looks
Before using it I was intrigued by the look of it and wasn’t sure to buy it. Once I bought it I feel like it’s my best kitchen appliance. It’s a good buy and worth every penny!!!! I highly recommend everyone to try it out.

It’s good but not easy to clean
Hi guys we all loved it but it’s quite hard to clean those spikes are sharp - but don’t let that put you off I just soaked mine and that made it a lot easier to clean but it doesn’t stop you getting pricked on those naughty wee spikes but defo good fun

This raclette is so much neater than I expected! We used it for the first time the other night and I was surprised at how well it worked. Chicken broth in the moat heated enough to cook frozen broccoli. Some tiny taters that I par-boiled first finished off in the moat, and were perfect. The "volcano" did a great job of efficiently and relatively quickly cooking thin sliced eye round steak. And the best part - the cheese! We melted Swiss and cheddar to pour over the veggies and slices of French bread. It was fun and absolutely yummy. The spikes on the volcano make it a little tricky to clean, but that's not a biggie. It was well worth what I paid.

Works great and is a lot of fun. We used it on New Year's for a raclette dinner. The machine was very easy to clean, even though I left it overnight. The unique shape of the grill worked well. It's surprisingly light. The cord was too short but that was easily fixed with an extension cord. The quality is great and the price is right. I definitely recommend to others.

This is really, really fun. We used it on the highest heat setting, and it just got the job done; I wouldn't mind it getting a bit hotter. There's virtually no setup or assembly: unpack it, wash the washable pieces, plug in, put the sombrero over the heating element and you're good to go! Our favorite raclette meal so far: bought fresh ravioli (prepackaged in the deli case - the soft kind, not hard noodles), sliced raw beef, chicken, and vegetables and three kinds cheese, and made some baguettes. We poured broth in the rim and dropped ravioli in there to heat up; that worked perfectly. We hung the meat and veggies on the 'sombrero' to grill. I don't recommend cooking raw chicken on here; it takes too long, and raw chicken requires careful handling, and we just found it too much fuss. But thin slices of bottom round roast grilled up in just a few minutes. Scallions (halved longways) and thin slices of zucchini, yellow squash, and bell pepper softened up in a few minutes too. The best part, though, was cheese melted in the spatula-type trays under the heating element. It was absolutely perfect. We had a great time gathering round, melting cheese and grilling meat and vegetables, and piling it on our plates with bread and ravioli in different configurations. For what it's worth, we didn't use raclette cheese. We had best luck with Montamoré, and Emmenthaler. Gouda was good and tasty but didn't really melt well; it just softened. This is great for s'mores too - melt chocolate and marshmallows in the little tray then slide it onto a graham cracker. This is a fun product design and pretty much a novelty party item. After all, it's called "Sizzling Sombrero" right there on the box, so I can't take it too serioiusly. It was definitely worth every penny. The raclette grills with a flat top may hold heat better, and they'd be more effective for use like a griddle - cooking crepes, eggs, and other things. With this product you're limited to what will stay on that little metal hook on the sombrero. But the brim part - where liquids can go - is really fun. UPDATE January 2019: we've done the raclette thing for many gatherings in the past two years. For a holiday dessert buffet, we served plain sugar cookies, chocolate wafer cookies, strawberries, pineapple slices and marshmallows, along with chocolate chips and other meltables. Guests of all ages had fun making their own combinations: melting mint chips on cookies, chocolate on pineapple, etc.
