BMV-712 Smart Battery Monitor with Shunt - 6.5-70 VDC - Display, Bluetooth and Detailed in-App insights- Grey

I had this fitted during a narrowboat battery replacement. It was a surprisingly simple installation. Once in, the unit worked first time (including Bluetooth app and link to starter battery) and I am now officially obsessed with the state of charge of my batteries. To the point of ad nauseum!

A great improvement on our previous method of working out what our batteries were doing. Not easy to fit, and not a staightforward job with a lot of adjustment needed to the wiring layout in our case at least. Having got through it and installation complete, I would be without it for its clear information on what our charge state is.

Easy install, works straight out of the box without faffing, great product

I do not think the display provided is worthwhile so I did not install it so it was visible. Luckily the telephone app is good and reliably connects over Bluetooth over a fair distance. The only disappointment with the app is that it only records whilst it is active and the information is lost when you leave the app. Because the negative connections are in my case many and smaller than the victron connection you need a go between such as a “bus bar” but I used a connection piece that connected to the victron but had two smaller connections. I also needed to purchase a battery cable. As well as the connection to the leisure battery I was going to add the connection to the starter battery but have not done so yet as it is difficult to route a cable to it.

After installing a brand new expensive AGM battery bank in my camper , I was at my wits end for a few weekend trips worrying about keeping my state of charge above 50%. When I installed this it gave me peace of mind. I don't know what the other reviews are fussing about Bluetooth coverage for.....I have no problems....i can check it from GREAT distances. It can be tricky to get connected at the start, but bear with it and keep trying and checking you're doing everything correctly, because when you do , you won't believe how accurate and functional it is. Highly recommended quality product.

Easy to install, and works perfectly, data cable is very long and in my case I only needed about 4’ so it means a large bundle of cable in battery compartment so I’m looking for a shorter cable which would be great if this was an option on purchase, apart from that I’m happy with it

Installation may require some very heavy wiring consistent with your electrical system. I installed units in both the “house” battery circuit (220Ah) and starter battery circuit (100Ah) in my sailboat. Both meters seem to be very sensitive and accurate for both discharge and charge. Once the current shunts were in place the wiring to the remote displays very easy. Instructions were clear.

Victron nailed it with this one. I use it to monitor a LiFePO4 bank in an off-grid setup and the readings are incredibly accurate. The Bluetooth app is intuitive and offers deep insights like voltage history, amp draw, SOC, and more. Setup requires a little patience (especially shunt placement), but once it’s running, it’s a game changer. You’ll always know your battery’s real status.
