Superheroes Are Everywhere

This is a feel-good, inspiring book that’s just right for the little ones (and adults, too). It’s an interactive book and it’s great for discussions, whether led by teachers, parents, or grandparents. Author Kamala Harris shows how people we see every day and “ordinary” people we know and are related to, are all heroes in their own special ways. I especially liked the pages in the middle where as a child she tells a boy to stop teasing one of her friends, and she mentions a friend who helped her when she fell down. She brings the ideas right into homes and classrooms by showing how simple actions and gestures can be the most powerful. It’s interactive because after each type of superhero story, readers are asked who they know who also demonstrates similar superhero actions. A strong ending gives all readers a chance to be a superhero, as a page allows kids to see their reflection and use the prompts to describe their good works. Finally, Harris includes photos of her family and a timeline of her life, including her election as a U.S Senator. She’s sending a clear message to kids – “You can be brave too, in your own way, in your own time.” (By the way, this is especially good for kids in special ed classes. Anyone can show superpowers.)

I bought this book back in November when Kamala Harris was elected the Vice President. I bought two copies actually, one for my nephews and one for a local community library. It’s a sweet book that tells us that “superheroes” are just regular folks being their best selves. The books is diverse, with kids of all backgrounds represented. Cute artwork too! They do need to update it and add “VP” to the timeline of KH’s accomplishments at the end, which I hope the publishers will do soon. Very highly recommended!

I purchased this to give as a gift to my 4 year old niece. She is quite enthralled with VP Elect Harris and know she will be so happy to have this book. It is charming to flip through as the illustrations are lovely with a friendly upbeat tone to them. I love that this book features illustrations of all kinds of children! It continues to amaze me how difficult it is to find children's books that reflect the diversity of the children my nieces and nephews are growing up with. Their school and community is wonderful, with families from "all corners of the globe" yet the books for their age groups are hopelessly stuck in the past and rarely have character who look like all of their friends. This is weird and, frankly, confusing to them. I know she will treasure this book from the "First Girl Vice President" as she likes to call her, and I think you will too!

It's great that there's a superhero book that talks about real people being heroic and how we all have to opportunity to be helpful and kind. My granddaughters (3 and 5) loved hearing about Kamala Harris and talking about women being senators, vice presidents and (hopefully) even the President of the United States.

my grandson I especially liked the photos of Kamala's life and family and also the timeline. I learned so much about her and I am so glad she included this info in her book. It is a real keepsake!

I love how this book details how superheroes can be found everywhere in kids lives. Its such a great message and especially appropriate for kids who are really into superheroes. It talks about the importance of family, friends, teachers and education. All the superheroes you'll meet in your life and how to help others. There are good conversation starter questions throughout the book like, "who makes you feel safe?" etc. I think it would be a great addition to any elementary classroom as well.

Hopefully VP Harris continues on with her political career as she walks in the steps of women like Shirley Chisholm. Unfortunately the book arrived with a ripped cover. A minor annoyance but not worth the effort of returning.

Bought this for my 6 year old kid but seems like she is not that much excited with this in searching for a super hero. It might be exciting for kids in the range of 4-5 years and not above that. Books is very much over priced for the content available. If explore more, we can be able to find better books in this cost for kids.
