I was surprised at how sturdy of a desk this has been so far, especially considering the price. I'd purchased a Sauder desk before for my husband (approximately $100 more for his) and I was able to put that one together by myself in a couple of hours, so I expected the same for this desk. I definitely wasn't disappointed on that front. The directions were well-written and most of the pieces clearly marked, though I was able to correctly guess on the rest. The size is great, not too big, not too small, and it's holding up very well since the assembly. My only complaint is the cheap plastic drawer pulls that come with it, but those can easily be switched out, even if you have to buy them.All in all, I'm definitely glad I made this purchase, especially since I was on a tight budget. Sauder did well with this desk.

All the negative reviews point to either damaged product via shipping or those that lack basic skills with a screw driver/ hammer, or following the directions. This product came in excellent packaging, the directions were easy to follow, and you literally just need a hammer for one step, the rest require a screw driver. Assembly took almost an hour working at a comfortable pace and a couple beers.The keyboard tray might be a little low if your taller, or have a computer desk with arm rests. Serious gamers will most likely set keyboard on top of the desk anyway. As for a moderate use desk that will look great, take up little space, this product is perfect. I myself am a casual gamer, web surfer and it works perfect for me. I am 6'2" and have no complaints as I store my keyboard and mouse in the keyboard tray when not in use. Less clutter keeps the wife happy and me off the couch ;)So if your in doubt here are some facts about the product.You can fit multiple monitors, huge PC's might not fit in cabinet, arm rests will most likely interfere with keyboard tray, again I put mine on top of desk, and store it when not in use. You will most likely have to adjust the horizontal and vertical screws on cabinet door for perfect alignment, and the instructions are easy to follow. Take your time and separate all the hardware, layout the wood pieces and just stay organized.

Sauder makes outstanding furniture. This desk is no different. It's easy to assemble. I put this together a few years ago in less than an hour and I'm no carpenter. The desk is still holding up well years later. The directions are straight forward. The finish is classic. The wood is particle board but good quality none the less. Sauder has outstanding customer service so if a piece is missing or something is wrong they are on it right away. This beginnings desk is priced reasonable for the quality it delivers. This is a good buy. Highly recommended. 5 stars.

plywood would crack in a minute

The top of the desk had a dent in it with a big scratch and the door had the handle holes on same side of the hinges so it could not be used to open. My husband was gone for awhile after I ordered it and we were moving to a new place. He put it together while I was gone orI would have had him stop as soon as I saw the scratch & dent. By the time he got to the last steps of the drawer & door; it became apparent how cheap this desk was designed. The drawer doesn’t open well & the door now has no handle area unless we put holes in opposite side and & have holes appearing on face of door. This desk is a cheap piece of junk.I would appreciate a credit on this desk because I don’t think they would want this shipped back to them as it is!!!

Arrived in very sturdy packaging. Very strong, stable, and beautiful desk once assembled. Sauder went above and beyond when they thought about the makings of this desk in that it will be very easy if I need to adjust anything later. The keyboard tray is totally solid I have no issues with it falling whatsoever unlike other desks I've used in the past! All of the drawers roll smoothly and every hinge is metal and sturdy. I can see that this desk will last me a very long time. I've always bought the cheapest desk I could and I have to say I am so happy I spent a few days and spent the extra money on this desk. It was so much more than I thought it would be when I ordered it and Sauder did an incredible job in the making of this desk!Edit: I still have and am still using this desk 10 years later.

The desk is nice and sturdy enough but just a fair warning: it takes a long time to assemble. I say this as someone who always assembles any furniture I buy, this took a few hours longer than expected. And although I like the final outcome, I can't give it 5 stars because there was a metal bracket missing. I know that's not the most essential piece but I would simply suggest going through ALL the parts and pieces before beginning to assemble to ensure you have everything you need.I do like that the shelf in the cabinet is optional; I opted out as to have bigger spacing for my PC. Other than that, desk seems alright for now.
