This is a solid-glass sphere. It's better than a fancy paperweight. You can orient it anyway you want on the separate base. How it inverts my view of the sky and trees outside my window is nice too. (I noticed that it shows the Great Lakes, but not Lake Baikal in Siberia. Also, I notice that Newfoundland has been moved East a couple of hundred miles!)

I think there is some deception on the wording but it is a clear glass sphere with a nice spiral inside. China, most def. as they dont give much info on their products. The spiral looks cool but it doesnt spray the rainbow with the sunlight...or I havent gotten it to...so it may be glass.

I love it! Tbh i was a little iffy because i thought the 80mm or 3" sphere would be smaller but to my suprise it was alot bigger and heavier than i imagined so becareful and not drop it. When it arrived it came in a beautiful blue (what i assmue is paper machette) box and inside the box a blue square sheet of fabric kept over the styrofoam which kept the sphere and the stand nestled and in place. It may not be for everyone the galaxy is a bit small but its perfectly fine to me, id think if it were any bigger itd look warped or over magnified, but i personally like it as is and can say im actually happy with my purchase and no regrets.

This was more than I expected. It was alot heavier than I expected! Beautifully crafted along with the base. It came in a blue covered cardboard gift box. Laying on top of a silk piece of fabric with packing on top. Other reviews discredited the box, I didn't have any problems. It was in good condition when I recieved it and would have no problem gifting in the package it came in.

Very well done laser cut of the Milky Way Galaxy and if you purchase this item I STRONGLY recommend you concurrently purchase the Erwei LED Light Base (or something similar) to enhance the Milky Way (the light gives a soft glow to the orb itself but really lights up the Galaxy). Very nice night light, conversation piece or something for those of us that look skyward more than most.
