When I started reading Anne of Green Gables, I had no idea what it was about. Received order quickly & feel really 'grown up' to own a whole, complete set of books by any one author. The quality is not bad for the price. The fact that set is complete and boxed is pleasing and it looks pretty good. Anyway, have just finished the 8th book, and the books and stories get better, the further on in time that you go. I still loved the very first Anne book but the 6th, 7th & 8th are good too. This time round, I actually read all the descriptive passages about the landscape & this added to the pleasure & sense of geography. Have found the whole reading experience therapeutic - have laughed out loud many a time - & cried a bit too. If you want to give yourself a nice present as a reward, this could well be it. (As good as a new handbag!)

We’ve been watching the first series on Netflix so I was pleased to see there’s a complete set book box set. I got this for my hubby at Christmas who is currently engrossed in the first book, he tells me it is just like the series (though it is of course the series is true to the book), he’s enjoying it as he’s reliving the programme in his head as he reads. It’s a great story of Anne, based in Canada and her life, with its ups and many downs, Anne’s bright spirit and bold endeavours see her through. A must classic read, especially if you loved the ‘Anne’ with an ‘E’ series too.

My 12 year old granddaughter loves these and is romping through them, comparing them favourably with other favourite books by current authors. There are significant differences between these original stories and the new TV series, Anne with an E, although I can see why the TV versions have been updated to be more inclusive. In this modestly priced edition, the print is small and crowded and might give difficulty to a slow reader.

I first read this series when I was about 20 years old. I am now re-reading this series at age 54. The books are just as delightful and captivating now as they were when I was younger. They are timeless! I get lost in the stories. Amusing... tragic... beautiful... fun... heart-warming... gut-wrenching - all the good stuff of life is alive in these books!

This is a classic Canadian masterpiece. Some might find the glimpses into pioneer life unrealistic, but I enjoy the outlines of the historical era depicted by the author, and the personalities that are so deftly portrayed by an author who seems to love her characters ... even the annoying ones! There is honesty within the narrative which offers an authentic balance between playfulness and pain. One is left with a deep impression of the joys and challenges of life.
