Sennheiser PXC 550-II Wireless Over The Ear Headphone with Mic (Black)

After using the Sony XB450 for over 5 years, I was ready to change my headphones. I shortlisted Sennheiser HD 450BT, Sennheiser HD 45BT8, Sony XB900N and Sony WH-CH710N. I wanted a set which would be used for both music and calls. I have a wide taste in music, ranging from heavy rock, nu rock, rap/hip-hop, trance, house, (not the EDM stuff), classical (Indian and Western both) and wanted something that will satisfy across this spectrum. I am typically on work calls for 3 to 4 hours day so wanted a set that has a good microphone. After reading around I stumbled on Sennheiser PXC 550-II. Read some reviews online and found this set to better over the other choices I had made. Went for it on 4-Jul-2021 and have been using it ever since.The music is deep and lush, the bass is very good to the point it does not interfere with the mids and lows. For comparison, I tried the Skullcandy crusher headphones and I couldn't wear them for over 2 hours. The Sennheisers work flawless, and while they were a little tight in the first few days, they now feel okay for the fit. The ANC can be manually controlled. The touchpad seems about okay, and works well 8 out of 10 times. The one-tap pause feature is very convenient. The smart pause option is available, it would pause music if you take off the headphones. I have not enabled it and I don't need it.Pros:- Can connect to both my laptop and mobile.- Awesome sound, and can be customized a bit by the Sennheiser Smart Control app. The sound stage it creates has been exemplary. As a test, I asked my grandfather to listen to a classical song (Kishori Amonkar - Sahela Re) and he was blown away.- Awesome battery life. I need to charge them once every 3 days and 4 days on light use. I don't require noise cancellation since I work from home, but I tested it and it worked really well.- Very good Bluetooth range, the headphones stayed connected and and played music (with no apparent loss in quality) in a second room and going through 3 walls.- The default carry case is very good. I suspect it would be good enough for traveling for both flights and roads.- There's a feature called transparent hearing, which when you double tap on the right can, you can hear what a person is saying.- Twist and turn off feature is extremely convenient. It even calls out through a voice message.- Premium build quality but I'm unsure how long the earpads will last. I'm a careful user so I hope they last long.Cons:- The app is really simplistic, and only provides 4 default sound modes and firmware updates. I read somewhere a more comprehensive app is overdue. A reviewer here mentioned it too.- The transparent hearing mode does not work for music but only for calls. Would be better if it worked for music too.Notes: It uses micro-USB for charging, and not USB C, which is still okay for now. USB C charging would have made this future proof. Not a big con IMHO. Although expensive, I now prefer the sound from these headphones over my Sony (tbf, the Sony is 6 years old). I will take off half a star for the simplistic app that's all.

If you're looking to buy a relatively budget ANC headphone but don't want to compromise on sound quality, this is for you.The ANC works well for low frequency sounds but lets in high frequency and human voices. Not the best in commute/traffic scenarios but works decently for office/airplane (as long as there's no babies nearby).The sound is mostly balanced except for slightly shrill treble. I like it balanced but if you're looking for a warmer sound signature or stronger bass response, EQing works well. I use the wavelet app and I'm satisfied changing the signature to sound my preference as per the genre. Imaging and soundstage is lacking with an okayish detail and clarity of sound, but it's not too jarring to use for general music listening.The touch response is decent and reliable, buttons work well although I'm not sure why the Bluetooth on/off toggle button is placed in an awkward area.Comfort is good but ears can get heated up in over 30 minutes of use. If you wear glasses like me, you would get about 95% seal for the ANC which is still decent, slightly more effective ANC without glasses.Battery life is very good. I've used it on 18 hour flights without emptying the charge completely. Complete charging can take hours but I don't need to do it that often.All in all, it's well worth the price for an ANC headphone without comprising on sound.

I bought Sennheiser PXC 550-II after trying Bose NC700 and Jabra 85H. I did not try Sony XM4 as a good microphone is essential for me and all reviews on Sony say that Mic is not good. Coming back to Sennheiser PXC 550-II, the build quality is quite good and comfort level is exceptional, even better than Bose 700. There is minimal sweating and the earpads don't put much pressure. Actually Sennheiser increases the temperature by 3.5c while Bose increases around 6c as per online reviews. The it is true in my experience. The sound clarity is exceptionally good while listening to music and there will not be any fatigue after long hours. If you install the Smart Control app, you can set the equalizer as per your needs and it makes a lot of difference. For example, if set to Speech mode it enhances the speech volume and clarity in movies and I never had to look at subtitles again. Clud and Movie modes give a experience as the names indicate. Overall I am happy with my purchase, but for the price some more improvements should have been in place.Positives1) Active Noise cancelation is good, but not upto Bose standards. You will be surprised by the silence right after wearing it2) Same goes for Mic on office calls. Clarity is good but it catches some background noise also3) Build quality seems good but light weight. It is both a good and a bad thing. Have to judge on long term usage4) Sound quality is mostly true to source. No thumping Bass. If equalizer is set to Club or Movie mode, then you get some extra bass5) Comfort is best in industry6) Touch Controls are good and work accurately most of the time7) Multi device support. We can connect 2 devices at the same time. Works well with Windows 10 unlike Jabra which doesn't support laptops officiallyCan Improve1) Looks are very subdued. Bose looks classy2) You will need the Smart Control app to change the sound modes. I wish that they were integrated into the gestures like in Jabra 85H3) Supports only Alexa voice assistant, not Google assistant even if Google is the default on your phone4) There is no OFF Switch. So even in wired mode, the headphones consume battery as ANC is ON5) They give a 2.5mm to 3.5mm aux cable without Mic with the headphones. It is difficult to find a replacement in future. Sennheiser sells a cable with Mic seperately. They should have given a standard 3.5mm cable with Mic considering the price6) There is no hard case. The supplied case is only semi-hard and won't protect the headphone from getting crushed. Better buy a good hard case7) Battery backup is good but could be better8) I noticed that Battery goes from 20% to 100% in around 90 minutes even though Sennheiser says it takes 3 hours for full charge. I think the battery percentage shown in the App is not accurate, as the headphones actually give more backup when charged for 3 hours.9) There is no fast charging. Uses MICRO-USB instead of Type-C

These are very comfortable headphones for long journeys or for lounging around and not being too intrusive. The battery life is amazing and the sound quality is up to Sennheiser standards. Noise cancellation isn’t the best but it’s sufficient.I use them for meditation and they’re amazing with Binaural Beats and I can get into a meditative state very quickly which I can’t do with other headphones which is a testament to the sound quality.

Très bon casque, très confortable, avec des fichiers en HD avec Amazon music HD c'est juste un pure bonheur. Le son est équilibré, très beau médium et le registre grave est maitrisé et cela sur tout type de musique. Quand à l'ANC il est amplement suffisant pour moi.

Bueno pues tras la experiencia de haber probado unos auriculares de menor calidad (tengo unos Pioneer SE MS7BK y he estado probando unos Audio Technica SRB50BT), decidí pasar a palabras mayores porque no estaba convencido y si me gasto el dinero tiene que merecer la pena.Y la experiencia no ha podido ser más positiva, ha sido auténticamente amor a primera vista. Siempre me gusta probar mis primeros auriculares con Rimshot de Eryka Baduh porque es una canción que tiene unos bajos muy profundos, que unido a la voz de la cantante me empiezan a dar una pauta clara de lo que voy a encontrar. Que conste que no soy Basslover, necesito que los bajos estén presentes pero que den protagonismo a medios y agudos. En este caso por fin he encontrado unos bajos potentes pero perfectamente definidos. A partir de aquí he ido disfrutando de un sonido absolutamente equilibrado, con esos bajos nítidos y con cuerpo pero que para nada se comen unos medios y altos claros y bien detallados. He encontrado aquello que buscaba, como es redescubrir canciones a través de instrumentos nítidos y con una gran espacialidad, donde puedes apreciar que cada cosa está en su sitio y cobra su protagonismo, cuando con los otros auriculares estaba todo más o menos mezclado, con indefinición de ciertos instrumentos…no sé, no soy audiófilo y me resulta complicado explicarlo, pero he sentido algo diferente y maravilloso. Decir que escucho música desde iPhone, y la diferencia de este PCX 550ii frente a su predecesor el PCX 550, es que trabaja con el códec AAC, específico de Apple, por si hay dudas a la hora de elegir, al usuario Android quizá no le merezca la pena ir al modelo más moderno. Dicho esto, ahora me quedo con las ganas de probar otros auriculares premium que dicen que son incluso mejores para ver qué podría encontrarme, pero bueno, no me la juego porque estos son espectaculares, y pude escuchar en el corte ingles los prestigiosos Sony WH-1000XM4, y creo que estos tienen unos bajos muy sobredimensionados y una música muy coloreada y poco natural.Estos Sennheiser tienen además una app con la puedes jugar algo con la ecualización poniendo distintos tipos de escenas, pero bueno, a mí me ha gustado tanto la neutra que no la cambio.Más cosas, los controles se ubican en un panel táctil en la copa derecha, y tienen en mi opinión un funcionamiento muy preciso y agradable a la hora de pausar, subir y bajar volumen y pasar canciones. Además con el doble tap la música se pausa y se activan los micrófonos para poder escuchar a tu alrededor, que es algo que mola mucho y que puede ser muy útil. Asimismo, funciona con asistentes, en mi caso lo he probado con Alexa y funciona muy bien.También he tenido la oportunidad de hablar por teléfono desde la calle, y haciendo viento, y se oía perfectamente, y lo más importante, también me escuchaban a mí con perfecta claridad.Otro tema que me parece esencial es la comodidad del auricular. Debido a que estamos ante auriculares over the ear o circumaurales, podría pensarse que siempre van a ser cómodos, pero nada más lejos de la realidad, y lo he sufrido en mis carnes con los Audio Technica, que me apretaban y daban mucho calor, aun en invierno, de modo que al poco rato ya no los aguantaba. Me daba miedo este aspecto en los Sennheiser pero nada más lejos de la realidad, son muy cómodos y no dan calor, siendo perfectos para gente con cabeza y/o orejas grandes. Muy bien porque las copas no son especialmente grandes sino alargadas para adaptarse a la forma de la oreja. A la comodidad también ayuda la ligereza, algo menos de 230gr. He oído que los nuevos Airpod circumaurales de Apple pesan casi 400Gr. Compadezco a sus usuarios, todo lo que vaya más allá de 300gr penaliza muchísimo en comodidad.Y ahora los palos, que son fundamentalmente dos, ambos relacionados con la cancelación de sonido. Ha sido tan decepcionante que me pregunto si no será problema de mi unidad. El caso es que salí a probar los auriculares a la calle y hacía un poco de viento. Cuando digo un poco me refiero a un poco. Pues bien, caminando de frente al aire el ruido era molestísimo, era como si los micrófonos amplificaran el ruido del viento de manera que me ha arruinado la experiencia sonora al 100%. Probé a quitar la cancelación, pero nada. Hay dos modos de cancelación, uno adaptativo o intermedio, que recomiendan precisamente para viento, y el de cancelación total. No he notado realmente la diferencia entre ambos, cuando iba con viento de cola me ha parecido que el desempeño era correcto, agradable, neutraliza bastante el ruido del tráfico, pero en el camino de vuelta ya digo que un verdadero horror. El Noise Cancelling del Audio Technica, siendo un auricular de menor nivel, me ha parecido mejor.Otra cosa que merece un suspenso sin paliativos para el equipo de usabilidad de Sennheiser es la manera de activar y desactivar la cancelación de ruido. Se hace a través de un interruptor físico pequeñito con tres posiciones que hay en la copa derecha (off, cancelación adaptativa y cancelación total). Esto hace que deba buscarse, siendo un pelín complicado, pero con el agravante de que al estar en la misma copa que los controles táctiles, el 90% de las veces que lo accionas tocas el panel y cambiarás de canción, o pausarás la música o algo pasará. Es una pena que con lo bien que funciona el táctil no pueda manejarse la cancelación con él, o que el botón físico no lo hayan puesto en la otra copa por ejemplo.Aparte de estos temas pues ya sabéis, este auricular tiene conector micro-usb, con lo que no dispone de la velocidad de carga de un usb-c, aunque la batería dura y mucho. Por el contrario, es multipunto, de modo que puedes tener dos dispositivos conectados a la vez (ej estas viendo la tele con los auriculares y si te llaman, se activa con el teléfono).Resumiendo el rollo que os he metido:A FAVOR:- Sonido sublime, equilibrado, detallado, espaciado…para disfrutar, y con alguna opción de personalización vía app.- Enorme comodidad y ligereza.- Panel táctil intuitivo y preciso.- Micrófono perfecto para hablar por teléfono.- Posibilidad de usar asistentes como Alexa.- Posibilidad de tener dos dispositivos conectados a la vez.EN CONTRA:- Cancelación de ruido deja muchísimo que desear en situaciones de viento.- La forma de activar y desactivar la cancelación de ruido está muy mal diseñada.En mi caso los puntos en contra no son esenciales por el tipo de uso que voy a dar al auricular, pero para el que la cancelación sea crítica, compararía (probé los Sony y en este caso están muy por encima, aunque en mi opinión tiene peor calidad de sonido). Si hubiera un auricular BT de esta calidad sin cancelación de ruido y fuera más barato, iría sin duda a comprarlo.NOTA: Posteriormente he probado esos auriculares premium sin NC, en este caso unos Bang & Olufsen Beoplay H4. Siempre he sentido una fijación por poseer algo de esta marca, ya que de niño crecí con un equipo en casa de mi abuelo que era increíble, y ya más mayor vi porqué lo era, y el nivel de precios es inasumible para mí, pero unos auriculares si me los puedo permitir. Pues bien, estos Beoplay H4 son unos grandes auriculares pero para mi gusto no llegan a la suela de los zapatos a los Sennheiser. Menos nítido en general, y con una ecualización personalizable pero que no me permite encontrar lo que busco. Sonido más coloreado, menos natural aunque bastante equilibrado, esto va por gustos y a mi no me han convencido, aunque los materiales son más premium.

Faccio una premessa importante: le ho comprate la sera del single day (11 novembre) pagandole 166 euro. Era indeciso con le sony wh-1000xm3 perchè mi interessava un paio di cuffie con ANC ma a questa cifra era impossibile lasciarsi sfuggire queste pxc550ii. Le cuffie sono molto confortevoli e leggere ma attenzione: l'archetto non è molto estendibile, al limite massimo a me calzano perfette per un pelo (e non ho la testa molto grande) quindi essendo over ear ad alcuni potrebbe capitare che non calzino perfettamente pregiudicando quindi l'isolamento passivo e il comfort. Qualità audio: ottima, suoni bilanciati, bassi ben definiti ma poco "pompati", medi e alti ben definiti. La sonorità è neutra quindi ma meglio così rispetto a cuffie troppo sbilanciate sui bassi. Con queste cuffie si possono ascoltare tutti i generi senza troppi compromessi. A onor del vero devo dire che rispetto alle cuffie AKG y50 da cui provengo la sonorità non fa gridare al miracolo (complice i driver da 40 anzichè 32 delle pxc550) ma comunque in termini di purezza, un salto in avanti c'è. Se non lo avete fatto, vi consiglio se come me ascoltate musica dallo smartphone di cambiare i codec bluetooth di default da predefinito a aptx (dovete abilitare le opzioni sviluppatore su android, operazione semplice e reperibile su molti siti). Così facendo la qualità sonora delle cuffie ne beneficerà. Riguardo lato ANC mi sembra buono, certo non all'altezza magari delle Sony (che però non ho provato) ma complessivamente si comporta bene. Riguardo le altre caratteristiche una menzione di demerito alla funzione di smart pause: quando funziona, almeno al sottoscritto, funziona molto bene. Il problema però è che si avvia raramente: se tolgo le cuffie, la musica non si interrompe. Quindi la disattivo e riattivo, riprende a funzionare un paio di volte e poi di nuovo sparisce...Ormai mi sono rassegnato a disabilitarla. In conclusione, almeno per me e visto il prezzo pagato, me le terrò strette e le consiglio a chi cerca una cuffia che prediliga la purezza del suono all'ANC (buono ma non il TOP della categoria)

Jag gillar ludkvalitén på denna. Inte för mycket bas, men vill man ha lite mera kan man ställa in det i appen. Separationen är klar vilket jag märkte när man lyssnar på Hårdrock och Metal, baskaggen är tydlig utan att ta över. Den är mjuk men framträder tydligt och "känns" som sig bör. Dock misstänker jag att den inte är tillräcklig för dem som lyssnar på hiphop :)Sångarens röst framträder tydligt och separerat liksom gitarrerna som inte heller överröstar. Diskanten från cymbalerna är inte skräniga. Akustisk musik med gitarrer är en fröjd att lyssna på då man liksom känner vibrationerna. Nu ska väl sägas att jag är lite äldre så jag hör inte längre de högre tonerna över 17000Hz, men kan inte säga annat än att jag är nöjd med köpet.Brusreduceringen är inte som på Sony's toplur MX10000M3 som jag också testat. Ganska dåligt faktiskt. Har man NC inställd på det "kraftigaste" läget (av två) så hörs minsta vindpust i mikrofonerna. Så man får använda mellanläget och då hörs bilarna (hjulljudet) ganska tydligt. I flygplan har jag inte provat än (pandemin ni vet) men kan inte tänka mig att den är sämre än på mina 5 år gamla billiga Philips-lurar som var hyfsade. Telefonsamtal är klara och tydliga dock för båda parter.
