No. It isn't equipped to whistle, it's only function is to serve as a vent.

You place it in the middle of the pie, add your filling, then add your pie crust. You don't need to poke holes in the crust as this acts as the ventilation. Steam escapes the pie by the bottom of the bird then through the beak. I would however poke a few holes with a fork around the top crust ...just to assist the bird a bit.

Despite being LeCreuset this is actually made in China so I only use this as a decoration in my kitchen - I would never cook with this.
