To me the grip size is 4 1/2". I don't consider the raised area at the top of the grip and bottom of the grip to be part of the grip size.

You can choose your color so I would call the company that supplied the paddle

The surface is not as rough as they make it sound. However, it is rough enough that you can put some spin on the ball which is quite helpful.
